A couple of months ago, we built https://www.domcomp.com - price comparison site for domains. It's been tremendously well-received and we've had requests for expansion into webhosting.
Now, we realize that webhosting is a completely different beast to domains. To initially narrow the scope, we'd limit ourselves to VPS (as opposed to shared/dedicated). I guess you could call this "market research" - but we wanted to see whether people think about this idea. If there's not much interest then we'll move on to other ideas.
From https://www.domcomp.com , you'll see that our 'style' is to be as simple/no-bullshit as possible. We'd try do the same, in this space. We'd likely initially simplify the experience as much as possible and only limit to searching/comparing by setting a few fields, such as cores/ram/hdd/price.
So, if you have time, some questions:
1) what existing tools do you use to find/compare VPS deals
1.1) are these tools good? What more would you want from them?
2) what problems do you think there would be
3) what parameters do you usually think are most important, when you look for VPS deals? e.g. cores/ram/hd size/price - what else?
4) In general, would you be interested in seeing this?
5) do you tend to go with large providers or small niche ones?
6) Any other suggestions/ tips / something you're interested in?
Thanks :)
